Acute Mountain Sickness and Exercise Performance Study

We are looking for adults (age 18-35) to participate in a research study looking at effects of two treatments (erythropoietin (EPO) and iron) on acute mountain sickness and exercise performance during a 14 day stay at altitude. This study includes testing both at sea level (Eugene, OR) and at altitude (Leadville, CO). There will be 6-7 testing days and 4 weeks of drug treatment at sea level. You will then travel to Leadville, CO for 14 days of testing at altitude. You will also compete 1-2 days of follow up testing within 7 days of returning to sea level. Compensation up to $610 paid upon completion. Travel, lodging, and food expenses are paid for. If interested, please contact us at 541-346-0831! or Email:lovering.lab@gmail.com

EMG Analysis of Scapular Stabilizer Muscles

We are currently recruiting healthy and active 18-28 year old individuals for participation in a single session where you perform shoulder exercises while connected to surface electromyography (EMG) sensors that record how much your muscles activate.

If you’re interested in athletic training, physical therapy, rehabilitative careers, and/or Graduate/Professional School, you may enjoy being a part of this research! We can be flexible and find a time for your voluntary session that suits your schedule!

If you are interested in participating, please contact Jamie Destache via Email: jdestac4@uoregon.edu

Establishing Normative Values for the DPA Scale

PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR RESEARCH STUDY

TITLE: Establishing Normative Values for the Disablement of the Physically Active Scale in Subset Populations

Who: 18-30 year-olds, Healthy and active (3 ≥ hours of activity per week)

What it includes: One 25-minute appointment with a researcher to complete the demographic survey and the Disablement of the Physically Active Scale (DPA). This scale is being used by clinicians to validate the patient-centered care they provide. The goal is to increase clinicians’ use of this scale by establishing normative values for the DPA.

If you are interested in participating, please contact Jackie Sher via Email: jsher@uoregon.edu

Healthy Shoulder Study

We are conducting research related to shoulder function.  If you have never had any medical problems with your shoulder, you may be eligible to participate.  Testing is invasive and requires the insertion of needles into your shoulder and the electrical stimulation of your muscles.  If you are matched with a patient and complete all testing, you will be compensated $200 for your time.  If we don’t have a match for you yet, you could be on a wait list for up to two years. You would be contacted by phone or email when we find a match or are ready to remove you from the wait list.  Please call the Orthopedic Research Lab at the University of Oregon and leave your name, sex, age, and arm dominance if interested in participating in the study: 458-201-3149.

Hypertension Study

SUBJECTS NEEDED WITH HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

People with diagnosed elevated blood pressure or Stage 1 hypertension are needed for a Clinical Trial funded by the National Institutes of Health. Subjects must not be taking prescription medications to lower their blood pressure. The study will require a random assignment to either an exercise intervention or heat therapy intervention for approximately 10 weeks. This study is being conducted in the Department of Human Physiology at the University of Oregon. Eligible subjects may elect to participate in additional study activities including cognitive tests and MRI scans at The Lewis Center for Neuroimaging. Subjects will be compensated up to $600 for full participation in this study.

ELIGIBLE?

Ages 35-60; Systolic pressure 120mmHg or greater but less than 140 mmHg or diastolic pressure 80mmHg or greater but less than 90mmHg; no cardiovascular disease other than hypertension, or other chronic diseases; women must not be pregnant or currently breast-feeding.

This study is being conducted in the Department of Human Physiology at the University of Oregon under the supervision of Drs. Christopher Minson, PhD and John Halliwill, PhD

For more information, please contact Email: exercise@haywardfield.net or call 541-600-4095

Muscle Health Study

Seeking volunteers for a muscle physiology research study. We are investigating proteins involved in muscle contraction and whether they are altered by age and fatigue caused by repetitive activities. The study will involve 2 visits to the lab and a muscle biopsy of a muscle in each leg. We offer $200 compensation when participation is complete.
