Joshua Piker, the editor of the William and Mary Quarterly and Professor of History at the College of William and Mary will visit campus to discuss scholarly publishing with graduate students and interested faculty. The William and Mary Quarterly is the leading journal of early American history, and is among the most cited scholarly historical journals in the English language. Dr. Piker can provide insights and advice to graduate students for navigating the process of publishing a journal article, from choosing the appropriate journal through the processes of peer review, revisions, acceptance, and publication. During the past two years he has given similar seminars at Penn, Cornell, UNC, and Harvard.

In addition to editing the WMQ, Dr. Piker is also a leading historian of Native North America. He has published two books— Okfuskee: A Creek Indian Town in Colonial America, and The Four Deaths of Acorn Whistler: Telling Stories in Colonial America. During this informal lunch meeting with graduate students, he will be able to answer questions about the field of Native American history, his experience publishing two scholarly monographs (both with Harvard University Press), and any other topics of interest that graduate students would like to discuss about the profession.
